Healthy Chicken Gyros are Greek chicken, wrapped in a wheat pita & topped with tzatziki Sauce. Great for a quick week day lunch! Weight Watchers friendly recipe- 3 SmartPoints!
Have you ever had a Gyro before?? If you have, then you understand the regular cravings I have for this sandwich. If you have not tried a Gyro before, then you are in the right place! My husband and I love going to eat at unique restaurants in our new city. One of the first restaurants we went to (and still obsess over) was a Greek restaurant. They had the best Gyro I’ve ever had! Seriously. While it would be great to go eat at this restaurant regularly, that’s not the smartest for my pocketbook or waist line. My Healthy Chicken Gyro is the perfect answer when you are craving a Gyro. Greek seasoned baked chicken stuffed in a whole wheat pita pocket and topped with Homemade Tzatziki Sauce. This is a Weight Watcher friendly recipe and one pita pocket is 3 SmartPoints.
Gyros are the Greek version of a sandwich. Seasoned meat topped with lettuce, tomato, creamy Tzatziki sauce, and wrapped in pita bread. So good y’all! This recipe is low maintenance to make and great for dinner or perfect for grab and go week day lunches. I recommend adding this to your Sunday meal prep routine…. Just cook the chicken and make the sauce on Sunday and it’s ready for quick meals throughout the week. I love quick meals!
For the chicken breast, I followed my Oven Roasted Chicken Breast recipe. Instead of just seasoning the chicken breast with salt and pepper, I created my own Greek seasonings for the dry rub! Garlic and onion powder along with dried herbs and cinnamon add an incredible flavor to the chicken breast. You could actually use this “dry rub” for any type of meat or fish. Now I have an idea for more meals! After all the spices are mixed, coat the chicken breast in the seasonings and add fresh lemon juice and butter to the top. The chicken will cook in the oven for about 25 minutes.
Once the chicken has cooked and is cool enough to handle, slice the chicken into strips. This chicken is FULL of delicious flavor and a great alternative to the traditional Gyro meat (lamb). What really makes these Gyros standout is the Homemade Tzatziki Sauce. I definitely recommend making this sauce for these sandwiches. The sauce is quick to make and well worth it!!
These sandwiches truly are a great option for weekday lunches. You can pack each ingredient into separate containers then grab it and go! Healthy Chicken Gyros are the perfect meal when you are craving Greek food. Greek seasoned chicken, wrapped in a whole wheat pita pocket and topped with Homemade Tzatziki Sauce have all the delicious flavors of traditional Gyros without all the guilt! Low-fat and filling! Weight Watchers friendly recipe and 3 SmartPoints per pita.
I hope you enjoy these bites of flavor!!
