Easy Cooked Apples are quick to make and a must to add to any breakfast or alone as a snack. Delicious in oatmeal, yogurt, and perfect as a snack for kids!
Some things in life just need to be easy… like cooking for kids. When my first child was starting to eat solids, I was so overwhelmed with what to serve her and how. I know how to cook for adults, but babies was a whole different ball game for me. One food that I started to make for her on a weekly basis was cooked apples. I could make them in under 20 minutes with just 2 ingredients and knew she would eat them. My Easy Cooked Apples are quick to make and a must to add to any breakfast or alone as a snack. Perfect in oatmeal, yogurt, or alone as a snack!
I have a 15 month old boy and a 2.5 year old girl. When my first child started to eat chunky pieces of food (and not purees), cooked apples were always in my refrigerator ready to give her. She’s 2.5 years old now and she still eats these. And you know what, I eat them too… every day in my oatmeal! What I love about this method of cooking apples is that it’s super hands off. You can just walk away while they cook and not have to keep too much of an eye on them.
For this recipe, I prefer Fuji or Gala apples because they are on the sweeter side and seem to cook the best. Just peel 3 or 4 apples, dice into ½ inch chunks and add to a pot.
Add ground cinnamon and cover the apples with water. Heat the apples over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes until the apples are to your desired softness. When my kids were just starting out with solid food, I would cook the apples longer to make sure they were softer. I literally make these apples once a week to add to their yogurt at breakfast and my overnight oats. They are so good!
Quick to make and a must to add to any breakfast. Perfect in oatmeal, yogurt, or alone as a snack!
I hope you enjoy these bites of flavor!
